Type of trips or journey

An itinerary is used to identify the origin and destination of the travel. A  trip itinerary consist of various segment of transportation. The segment which represent air transportation is referred as an air segment and the segment which represent land transportation such as by bus, by train or by any other transportation mode on the surface is known as surface segment. In context of tourism the trips are divided into various types following are the detail about every type of trips or journey.

One way trip

When a tourist travel from one place to another by  an aircraft, a train, a bus or  by other modes of transportation without any return trip is basically known as one way trip. The ticket purchased for the one way trip can be air segment, water segment and surface segment. When a person travel from one place to another and decide to stay over there for the period of twelve months and more it is considered as one way trip or journey. For example a person books an air ticket from Delhi to Mumbai without any return ticket.

Return trip

When a person travel from its destination to the origin and at the end of their journey they travel back to the origin is basically referred as return trip. If a traveller books a ticket from Bangalore to Delhi  and than back to its origin of the travel i.e. Bangalore this journey is known as return trip. The fare as well as the route of the travel is same in this trip while going and returning from the place.

Circle trip

It is somehow  similar the return trip the deference here is it include one more destination in it itinerary as compare to return trip and the cost as well as the routs of travel is not the same  for each segment as it is in the return trip. For example a itinerary like Bangalore- Dubai- Singapore-Bangalore in this trip a traveller can use various segment such as surface, air and water and the fare for each of the segment would be different and route of travelling will also differ.

Around the world trip

When a traveller plans to travel around the world crossing atleast five countries of the world and more than two continents, this trip is mainly made for those travelers only. This trip must cross two oceans Atlantic and Pacific and minimum five and maximum sixteen countries should be included in the itinerary of this trip. The journey should be end on the place of its origin. The fare can vary depending upon the airline, stopover, services offer etc.

Open jaw trips

In this the segment of the travel is interrupted by the another segments. In simple words one or more segments are used for travel. For example itinerary such as Delhi- Agra- Jaipur- Delhi in this itinerary one travel by air segment from Delhi to Agra and Agra to Jaipur by surface segment and than Jaipur to Delhi again by the air. In this the air segment is interrupted by the land segment is known as open jaw trips.
